NGC and PCGS are just junk plastic holders?

It seem that NGC & PCGS graded coins are just bullion in plastic. There is not one dealer that offered spot price when i have offered to sell some of my MS-70 gold coins. and then $2000 for a complete 1997-2008 1/10 oz NGC PF-70 set I wanted to grab him by his damn shirt and beat the Sh#t out of him i was so insulted. But the PF-67 freakin cat coin in his case is very rare BS.

Were you buying or selling? By my recoking nearly 100% over spot is good for someone. IMO coins are only good for protection against confiscation by the Govt. Other than that their weight and spot price determine their value. Selling collector coins to collectors is probably going to yield a higher value than a dealer.

When they sell it's a "numismatic rarity", when they buy it's a bullion coin. Typical dealer BS.

GEE perhaps that's why we have EBAY and Craig's List - maybe?

Like a lot of people said on here, those dealers are running a business. Basically, they're operating on brand name. People know their place and know it's a convenient and quick money. In exchange, they get low-balled, but some people don't care.

And if you think recent deals are bad, try selling back when spot was 11 and premiums were 3-4 dollars. When my dealer gave me spot-50, that's when I stopped going to him period. Now all I do is call on the telephone once every blue moon and see what his prices are, but I'll never go back to him.

I have a couple of local dealers that I buy from. They usually give me pretty good deals on most things.

However, when it comes time to sell, I always use Ebay. Dealers stay in business because of the poor saps who come in there and sell their rare stuff at firesale prices.

There are some dealers who are genuine stand up guys - paying fair market "buy" prices, and selling for a reasonable profit. Usually these guys attend the shows, and are actively looking to fill their client "want" lists for a lucrative sum, too. Those types of dealers are good to have around. The other type - and there are lots of them - are not much better than coin predators, seeking to lowball at any time to make a quick buck, oblivious to the recourse of bending people over. To those types I say: we don't need you. The market has evolved, and the 21st century collector has in his/her arsenal more power and knowledge than collectors have had at any other time. The gap between what a dealer knows and what a well educated collector knows has shrunk considerably. We can now trade amongst ourselves and nearly cut the greasy used car salesman out of the loop altogether.
